Mark and I went out for New Years, thanks to a nice babysitter, and we had a great time! Since most of my blog posts are about the kids, I thought I'd share a "grown up" post for once. Here is Mark on the subway.
We went to our very favorite So Kalbi place, (beef) called Long Ago Farm. The food is *wonderful*, grilled meat, mushrooms and garlic with lettuce to wrap it in and side dishes. Mark tried the Baek Saeju, some sort of rice based alcohol. I stuck to beer.
We also got a mushroom soup (those are all different kinds of mushrooms in the soup) for the first time, it was yummy.

The restuarant is in Haewha, this is the main street of the area. Lots of bars, restuarants, cafes.
Mark wanted to go to Boshinkak, the bell that is rung in Seoul 33 times on New Years. It was around 9 degrees, so I was not so excited. But at the last minute, we hopped in a cab and drove there...and arrived 2 minutes after midnight.
But it was still really fun, people were dancing and letting of fireworks (that was a little scary, actually) and just having a blast.
There were traditional Korean bands and dancers, too.
You can see the bell pavillion (Boshinkak) in the background, they set up a huge stage and had Korean pop singers performing. I am not up on my Korean popular music...or American, for that matter. So I don't know who was performing.
Then we walked along the backstreets and went to a bar high on the 6th floor above the street.
Today, New Year's Day, we took the kids and went out for Tokk Mandugook, a soup that is the traditional New Years dish. The rice cakes (the white ovals) are made to look like the moon. It was great, even Rowan ate a little.Happy New Year everyone!!
